Zorzal (Thrush) is a seven-member vocal and instrumental ensemble devoted to performing Spanish, Sephardic, and Latin American music across centuries and cultures. We feature a vocal quartet, recorders, guitar, harpsichord, viola da gamba, and Latin American, Arab, and African percussion. We perform in a variety of Spanish dialects as well as in Ladino (Sephardic Jewish) and Native American Quechua (Inca) and Nahuatl (Aztec). Thrushes, which are known for their singing ability, are found in Europe, Latin America, and North America. They symbolize our focus on musical multiculturalism, which is also reflected in our choice of texts and genres. |
